    Hugo Dolan
    Financial Mathematics

    Hugo is an undergraduate Financial Mathematics Student, interested in the areas of Data Science and Quantitative Research. This year Hugo competed in the Citadel Dublin Data Open as part of a team taking 1st place and will be competing at the Championship in New York Next Year. He also has a passion for 3D Modelling and graphic design and is recipient of an academic scholarship from the UCD School of Science.

    Ruth Moore
    Physics

    Ruth is a stage two physics student, her involvement in the fusion of the Arts and the Sciences, stemmed from having researched STEAM for a Young Scientist project while in school. As a member of UCD Women in STEM in Committee, she is passionate about inclusion and diversity in STEM. Aside from this, she currently is a science columnist for the College Tribune and student leader for the College of Science. She was a finalist of the 2018 Red Bull University Basement Challenge, which she undertook under one of the Innovation Academy Electives. She hopes to work in innovation once graduating, using STEAM to help make the world a better place, with particular focus to climate action.

    James Carron
    Electrical Engineering 

    James is more than just an Engineer by study. At 12 years old he won his first Engineering award going on to win three more All Ireland Engineering & Design Awards before the age of 18. A passionate speaker he has given several “NowTech” emerging technology lectures to Undergrad and Postgrad modules. James’ current focus is on the practical implementation of emerging technologies in new area’s such as Art and Industry 4.0.

    Maria Dmitrieva
    Information & Social Computing and Sociology 

    Maria is a second-year student of Information & Social Computing and Sociology. She has always been interested in social psychology and communication. In this age of technology and innovation, she decided to combine Sociology with Computing to reflect her interest in how we change technology and how technology changes us. By undertaking the Introduction to Creative Thinking module in 2018, she was inspired to join the Fellowship with a desire to create, empathise, and innovate. She hopes that her interest in Visual Arts, social processes, and technology will allow her to put forward a valid contribution to the project. Her hobbies include sports, music, horse riding, philosophy and photography; one of her biggest dreams is to own a stable with horses.

    Lee-Loi Chieng
    Information & Social Computing and Economics

    Lee-Loi is a third year Economics and Information & Social Computing student with post graduate credits in Computer Science from Harvard Extension School. He recently completed an internship at the Innovation Lab at Citi Dublin where he project managed and designed a internal tool for employees to use. He also used his background in video production to help create an investor video for a successful multimillion-dollar pitch. With the UCD Innovation Academy, he had the opportunity to help facilitate a 4-day entrepreneurial course in Kuala Lumpur with over 120 students but even more post-its.  When he’s not procrastinating College assignments, he likes: gadgets, fashion, discussing the stock market and straining his Cineworld Unlimited card.

    Melanie Ng
    Medicine

    Melanie is a second year student,  in the undergraduate 6 year medicine program. Previously, she received her Royal Conservatory Music Diploma which she utilized her knowledge to tutor primary students on various instruments. In her high school years she co-hosted a STEAM initiative that inspired to do more in this aspect. The UCD STEAM Fellowship was the ideal program for her to develop teaching and learning.

    Orla Cooney
    Geography and Information & Social Computing

    In the final year of her B.A., Orla is interested in all things tech specifically how technology has and will affect our society. She recently completed a Human-Computer Interaction research internship with the ADAPT centre, where her research focused on the future of conversational agents – she hopes to continue HCI research post-grad. Orla had the opportunity to explore her other interests in good food, music and travel when she spent an academic year studying at the University of Hong Kong. As a student at HKU, she was also able to broaden her learning by taking classes in Buddhism, Hong Kong popular culture and cyber crime among many others.

    Joshua King
    Computer Science

    Josh is a Computer Science student with a love for anything technology, science, futurism and music. In the past, Josh was the founder and captain of a team which competed in the US Air Force CyberPatriot competition, and has worked on research into alternative and mesh based network systems. Josh’s current focus is on computer vision, blockchain systems and bioengineering.

    Michael Connolly
    Mechanical Engineering

    Michael is an undergraduate mechanical engineer, with profound interests in mechanical design and innovation. Michael has been creating new ideas and inventions for as long as he can remember. With considerable involvement and achievement in design and academic competitions he’s been a finalist in the 2018 Siemens competition and a finalist in Ireland’s Team Math’s competition and knows what it takes to design and create at the highest level. Michael has also experienced a decorated sporting career as a boxer, with over 50 amateur fights he’s won multiply provincial titles including a Connaught Championship and has been a finalist in the All-Ireland Championships.

    Amoreena Mann
    English with Drama 

    This is Amoreena’s second year with the fellowship.  Her project last year was creating an empathy driven 360 degree virtual reality video experience called ‘Perspectives’ and this year she is acting as Team Leader  for the Innovation Academy’s interactive smart wall. She is a graduate of the Stella Adler Academy of Acting-Los Angeles and has previously worked professionally in the film and theatre industries in both technical and performance capacities, also spending time as the Marketing Coordinator and VIP Manager of the international film and technology event, Digital Biscuit, hosted by the Screen Directors’ Guild of Ireland.  She also currently performs with the children’s charity The Flying Seagull Project, bringing laughter and happiness to children in the refugee crisis. She is incredibly interested in the different forms of empathy and hopes to pursue a career in Movement and Drama Therapy. Her other interests include Jungian psychoanalysis, meditation, and visual arts

    Ghazal Aljarad
    Physiology

    Ghazal is an undergraduate third-year physiology student and a recipient of UCD international student scholarship. She is very passionate about research especially in the area concerning kidney disease. she is incredibly interested in introducing the blockchain technology in the health care field in Ireland and aims to connect it to other chains across Europe. Ghazal is very interested in cooking and her dream is to win the masterchef competition one day.

    David Bolger
    Agricultural Science

    A third year agricultural student, David has always been interested in all aspects of food and agriculture. In 2017 he was part of the winning team for the Mastercard innovation workshop. He took on the Innovation Academy’s fellowship, hoping to use virtual reality and other technologies to solve recurring problems in agriculture with his fresh perspective. He received a higher certificate in agriculture from CIT and has spent time working in the industry in both Ireland and New Zealand.

    Meg Brennan
    Biomedical Engineering

    Meg is a 3rd year biomedical engineering student with an interest in psychology, art and business. She enjoys solving problems as part of a team and has won at the BT Young Scientist and the Bank of Ireland Social Entrepreneurship Challenge. Meg also enjoys all kinds of sports and coaches for the UCD Ladies Boat club.

    Nitin Barthwal
    Masters Data Science

    Nitin is a trailblazer and a diligent thinker who always strives for excellence and knowledge. He has worked with Samsung R&D as a Chief Engineer where he managed multiple projects and mentored technical staffs. His inquisitive nature and creative mindset led him to file 2 Patents in the field of Machine Learning and Resource Optimization. He strongly believes technology should be used for the betterment of the mankind and this made him build a low cost air purifier. He has been awarded with the UCD Global Scholarship. Currently he is pursuing Masters in Data Science and his other interest includes playing cricket,travelling and exploring new destinations.

    Stephen Ryan
    English, Drama and Film  

    A first year English, Drama and Film student, Stephen has a great passion for the field of entertainment and holds a keen interest in the art of engaging others with any project he works on, recognising the importance of empathy, a sharp wit and experience of a wide range of interactions. He has a deep love of performance, be it singing, acting, debating, presenting or speechmaking, and his ultimate goal is just to make as many people smile or laugh as he can, hopefully forging a career at some point along the way. He enjoys the challenge of presenting information in as appealing a manner as possible for any audience, and hopes to build his understanding of the many creative ways in which technology can be used to achieve this through the Fellowship.

    Hannah Bryson
    Computer Science  

    Hannah is a third year Computer science student who loves problem solving. She pitched the need for more disability awareness on UCD campus which lead to her founding the disability inclusion and awareness society last year. She has also been a committed Coderdojo mentor since 2013 promoting the importance of teaching problem solving and programming skills to kids.  Outside college Hannah has a keen interest in photography and jewellery making.  In the future she hopes to use her expertise in the development of assistive technology.
