Be inspired by new approaches to learning from around the world.  Enrich your creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial thinking with our immersive professional programme. Learn how to build the skills and attributes your students need to help them flourish during the 4th Industrial Revolution.

This course is designed for educators of all academic disciplines who want to explore new, more creative ways to engage their students in learning. It is open to academics, teachers, principals and educationalists located in the ASEAN Region.

University College Dublin is Ireland’s Global University and has a long history of working in the ASEAN Region. Led by Professor Suzi Jarvis (B.A. Dphil. Oxon.) UCD Innovation Academy has designed and delivered programmes for both students and academic staff in the ASEAN Region and is the international partner on the Entrepreneurial Educator Enhancement Programme (3EP) coordinated by the Ministry of Education in Malaysia.

All applicants to the course can apply for funding to support them to part-cover the course fees. Please include this as part of your letter of motivation.

Applicants who are Malaysian Nationals and whose employers contribute to the HRDF Fund can apply for support from the HRDF to a maximum of 6500 MYR.

The programme will be delivered by Professor Suzi Jarvis and Dr Colman Farrell, both seasoned professionals committed to proving a high quality learning experience.  Suzi is an Oxford educated Physicist and Founding Director of the UCD Innovation Academy. Colman is an award winning Social Entrepreneur and former CEO with extensive experience across the public and private sector.

Develop an Entrepreneurial Mindset
By enhancing the creative confidence of participants and learning to think like an entrepreneur, participants will build their capacity to identify opportunities of value, to develop, share and iterate these ideas; and to engage the strengths of colleagues to execute these ideas for the benefit of their business.

Acquire the Skills to Innovate Your Teaching
Participants on the UCD Professional Certificate in Creating Innovative Practices in Education will learn to use proven approaches to strengthen their creative confidence and to foster a culture of innovation within an educational context. The course content includes:

  • Introduction to creativity
  • Exploring bounded thinking
  • Creative collaboration
  • Design Thinking in an educational environment
  • Fostering a growth mindset in our students

Practice Proven Tools and Methods
Participants will practice step-by-step methods (e.g. Design Thinking) to put their newly developed innovation skills to work quickly and start making an impact in their lecture halls and classrooms.


  • Learn by doing in a dynamic teaching environment
  • Small class sizes and teamwork each day ensure an interactive and personalised learning experience for every participant
  • Learn from practitioners who are constantly creating new, engaging teaching methodologies for postgraduate and undergraduate students at UCD Innovation Academy in Dublin.

  • Meet and network with like-minded educators from across the ASEAN Region
  • Learn about new trends and innovations in education and their implications.
  • Reflect on your practice as an educator and the enablers and barriers to applying innovative approaches to the learning environment.
  • Share insights into the macro-level challenges to change in education in your institution and identify new solutions to overcome these.
  • Learn to apply the Design Thinking process within an educational context.
  • Develop and prototype an innovative learning solution to a real-world problem.
  • Meet with leaders and influencers in education in the ASEAN region and internationally

Participants should be working professionals in education (lecturers, professors, teachers, principals) with an honours degree (Level 8 NFQ) and at least 5 years experience and a high proficiency in English.
