Datin Dr. Syahira Hamidon is a member of the International Advisory Board of Innovation Academy UCD.
Dr Syahira Hamidon heads the Entrepreneurship Unit at the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) after obtaining her PhD on “The Development of Malay Entrepreneurship in Malaysia” (now a book) at Massey University in Auckland.
Amongst her many accomplishments are: developing Entrepreneurship Education to be part of the Higher Education Strategic Plan, introducing a Policy on Entrepreneurship Education and Development ,and the Entrepreneurship Strategic Plan for universities, polytechnics and community colleges, and coordinating programs on entrepreneurship. She has also been involved in many other policy discussions and formulation, including education reform, graduate employability, youth entrepreneurship, SME development, and inputs for National Budgets, National Plans, and the Entrepreneurial Nation. She was one of the lead authors for the Malaysia Higher Education Blueprint 2015-2025.
Additionally, Dr Syahira has been leading a team to implement an initiative “Public-Private Research Network (PPRN)” as a strategy to increase productivity and strengthen Malaysian economic development through demand- driven research involving public researchers and business enterprises. This initiative is one of the components of the 11th Malaysia Plan.
Dr Syahira has co- authored books and published journal articles, led teams to design new programs on Entrepreneurship Education. Her opinion has been sought by other Ministries and Agencies in Entrepreneurship Development because of her thesis and her key role in MOHE. She writes Ministerial speeches on Entrepreneurship.
Dr Syahira is currently on several Boards, Councils and Committees in the higher education sector or related agencies because of her expertise and experiences. She also finds time since 2016 to conduct a class of Doctorate in Business Admin (DBA) at University Utara Malaysia.
Her previous positions before MOHE were in the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), handling trade support, quotas, liberalization of tariffs and government-industry relations; followed by the Public Service Department dealing with the Malaysian “Look East Policy” as well as planning and training.
She is part of the MOHE higher management and rising in the Malaysian Administrative and Diplomatic Service.
